Bentley approached Polar Manufacturing in May 2013 to develop two carbon fibre inner door cards for a development project to assess the use of composite materials.
The project brief was to have one of the door cards produced as a standard door but made using as few individual components as possible. Our brief for the second door was to produce a one piece solution, with both variations maintaining and incorporating the Bentley trademark leather interior
Polar Manufacturing placed a design engineer with Bentley to design both the doors and retrospective tooling. The design and tooling phase took three weeks with parts being fitted to doors in a total of nine weeks.
As a result of the success of the development project in April 2014 Bentley incorporated this carbon fibre standard door card and arm rest into the new Continental GTR-3. In addition Polar manufactured the parcel shelf, rear quarter panels, B-pillars, tread plates, lower lining, rear wing and front splitter for the development, verification and show car which was launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2014.
